The range of backgrounds and experiences was very wide, from the Malaysian jungle to the north of Finland.  Sound files for each of the interviews are posted here, with a podcast link of all the interviews combined. He was a painter who earned an MFA from University of Colorado Boulder, but because of a background in statistics, he started working on climate models at NCAR.  In this interview, he talks about his work, the development of climate models and an initiative to bring the social sciences into climate research:
